After you replace the fan and clean up the heatsink it should be quieter and the grinding noise will go away if it is not caused by a failing hard drive of course. Also, I downloaded a freeware called Speed Fan or something like that, and it shows temps idling in the 60C range, and then when I do something like watch a DVD, it creeps up.
